The City of Tallahassee was in need of an express shuttle service spanning from north to south of the city. Gas prices we sky rocketing after hurricane Katrina and people were looking for an option to leave their cars behind and take public transit to work. Fortunately, we were already working on several plans to make Tallahassee eco-friendly in the area of transportation. We wanted to encourage people to park and ride along the main corridor from north to south stopping at large business centers along the way. We worked with popular businesses along the route to share a section of their parking lot for a bus stop and area where people could park their car for the day. This was a win-win for both of us. We had popular stops along the route and the businesses had a captive audience of shoppers already parked in their lot.
Since this was a “shuttle” service, we used vehicles that resembled the look of a “space shuttle.” This sparked the idea of using an astronaut for a spaceman theme in this commercial. This is one of my favorite commercial marketing campaigns to inform the public about this new transportation choice in the city.
